ZeaLitY on Vacation

For personal reasons, ZeaLitY is now taking a vacation from administering the Chrono Compendium. Therefore, he's opened up the main page to all members in hopes that, as a group, we can run the site in his place. You can view his message here: It's showtime

Below is a list of his duties that someone will need to do. If you want to volunteer to fill a slot, just edit this page and put your name after the job.

  • Check for and post new remixes - (EMPTY)
  • Post relevant Chrono series news - (EMPTY)
  • Update Fan Projects - (EMPTY)
  • Post a weekly poll - Leebot

I sincerely hope we can pull this off with no problems. Let's make ZeaLitY proud.

Public Apology to Soraya Saga

Dear Soraya Saga,

As the owner of the server that this site is hosted on, I would like to publicly apologize for allowing your name and personal communications to be published here without your permission. We have infringed upon your right to communicate in confidence with your fans, which is something I should have immediately recognized and stopped. Since I own and maintain the server, it is my duty to observe and provide an objective view of what this site does in order to preserve its integrity, and in this case I have failed miserably.

Please understand that none of the involved parties had any bad motives, but that they were simply enthusiastic fans excited over the prospect (however slight) of another installation in their favorite game series. It was inappropriate to draw such meaning from your e-mail to begin with, but I ask that you forgive them for their enthusiasm and hold me entirely responsible for letting this site be a part of it.

I'm sure everyone has learned something from this experience, so please consider allowing game players to continue communicating with you, at least concerning your previous game-related work.

And to Zeality, please forgive me. In my overall negligence of the situation, I failed in giving you the guidance and advice you deserved as a friend.

Sincerely,
James R. O'Doherty

New Site Policy Enforcement

No communications of any form can be published on this site without the explicit permission of all involved parties. This should be implied by the copyright rules on the site, but it needed clarification to avoid being overlooked.

Also, this site will now maintain a no tolerance policy toward spreading speculation or rumors based merely on personal communications and hearsay. Any news or content regarding new games should be based on first-party sources such as official press releases or the public statements of permanent employees of Square-Enix who are directly involved with any such projects. Do not try to read between the lines or look for clues, either.

Chrono Trigger Editor Companion Released

--ZeaLitY 17:08, 1 Feb 2005 (CST)

Member of ACMLM.org's BlitzKrieg has composed an rom editor for Chrono Trigger to hold over budding hackers and modifiers until Temporal Flux is complete. Currently, it can edit miscallaneous ROM information, Enemy Stats, Character Stats, and Item Stats, with more on the way, including an editor of Item Shops. All the item attributes are still being figured out and integrated into the editor, as well as some accessory information, meaning this will definitely not be the first release of CTEC.

Grab it at http://www.blitzkrieg.finalconquest.net/ctec/ctec.rar . Screenshots and release notes at http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=9635 . Additionally, the extraction and formatting of the Chrono Cross script is in planning stages. If we can get some things working, the Chrono Cross script's release will take precedence over all other projects until it is done, as it may influence several points of analysis. While searching for stuff, I came across two projects that have been added to Fan Projects - a French translation of Chrono Cross, http://terminus.romhack.net/index.php?page=jv&projet=cross , and a German translation (in progress) at http://www.lavosspawn.de/cc.shtml .

Content Updates

The last three additions to the Chrono Compendium

  • A few updates here and there. Fan Projects now features the Chrono Cross Retranslations, Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes, Chrono Trigger: Reja Vu, and The Forsaken Demesne. Additionally, the Compendium's library of Chrono series completed modifications has begun with Zeal Battle (Modifications).
  • I have completed the tutorial on changing portraits in Chrono Trigger. Thanks go to Chickenlump and Geiger. The tutorial is ultra-friendly; you might even give it a try in your spare time. Read it at Changing_the_status_menu_portraits. Pictures abound!
  • At long last, I've completed the Chrono Trigger equipment encyclopedia. This includes Armor (Chrono Trigger), Items (Chrono Trigger), Key Items (Chrono Trigger), and Weapons (Chrono Trigger). I still need to fill in some biographical information for Key Items, but they're otherwise completed, with concept art. Now, to something useful! Tutorials are on the way for modification of Chrono Trigger.

New Feature: Chrono Compendium Remix Spotlight I

--ZeaLitY 12:44, 29 Jan 2005 (CST)

While the Fan Project Creator Interviews take a rest, a new feature is being debuted - the Remix Spotlight. Contributors and editorialists select two of their favorite remixes and write about why they like them and how they reflect and expand upon the Chrono series. The first can be viewed at Editorial_4; if you'd like to contribute to the next, check out this thread. FlankingLine has also released an RPGMaker2003 game on OCReMix that follows a newbie trying to get his remix posted. There is a location called Compendiumtown, done in the style of 1000 A.D. and featuring Schala's music. I'm the mayor of the town in the game, and the player must defeat me. Pics:

Lastly, each year, Yasunori Mitsuda releases a CD to his fan club members. These mostly contain original tracks, but the 2002 edition contained two performances of songs from the Chrono Cross Guitar Arranged book. Check out the official documentation on this CD here.

Drawing Contest, UCT2 Interview, Singing Mountain's background revealed

--ZeaLitY 20:01, 22 Jan 2005 (CST)

Three bits of good news today! The interview with the producer of Unofficial Chrono Trigger II, second in a series of Fan Project dialogues, has been released at Editorial_3. It offers much insight into the ongoing history and progress of the project, as well as its aims and features. The interview also includes a screenshot of the editor being used to create the game; don't miss it! Secondly, Kaschua has opened her own Chrono domain as a miscellaneous showcase for writings. To start things off with a bang, she's holding a drawing contest. The winning entries will be integrated into the layout of the site. Check it out at http://www.brinkoftime.net/contest.html . Lastly, JLukas has found a Q&A section at Yasunori Mitsuda's webpage in which he reveals the background behind Singing Mountain. Arc Impulse has translated it; see Singing Mountain for this wonderful information. Huge thanks to both of them! As a bonus, the Q&A also revealed more information about the disclusion of the prelude to Frog's Theme.

Chrono Trigger II: The Brink of Time Lives

--ZeaLitY 14:24, 19 Jan 2005 (CST)

BrownMan, who fell victim to a reformatting that erased his current work on the fan project CT II: The Brink of Time, has decided to resume work and create it anew, enlisting the help of a few of his friends.

I found most of my old resources that I made on my old computer. Unfortunately, my map files weren't there. Im going to have to make some new sprites, mostly enemies -- but also Magus, since he was done on the other computer (the one that got reformatted). I'm going to have to make the database again, and all the techs and stuff, so after all that I'll be releasing a demo. But it will take a while though for me to get back on my feet. Wish me luck!

The project Chrono Crisis also underwent two complete reboots before reaching its current state as well. An interview with BrownMan about CT II: The Brink of Time is on the way in Editorials in three weeks.

Interview with Chrono Crisis Creator & CT Music Supplement

--ZeaLitY 15:38, 15 Jan 2005 (CST)

After releasing the demo for Chrono Crisis recently, Chains of Fate has agreed to an interview detailing the history of his project, its inspiration, and his plans for the future. This is first in four interviews with Fan Project creators, so don't miss it at Editorial 2! Additionally, I have released an .spc supplement to the soundtrack of Chrono Trigger, featuring tracks such as "Leene's Bell" and "Mt. Woe Tsunami" that were not included with snesmusic.org's .spc pack. It can be found here.

Concept Art for Chrono Trigger Equipment added

--ZeaLitY 08:02, 14 Jan 2005 (CST)

When Chrono Trigger was created, artists drew every piece of equipment in the game, including Key Items, Accessories, Weapons, and others. These were eventually placed in player's guides, but thanks to the efforts of CuteLucca, they have come to the Compendium in high-resolution glory, scanned from Chrono Trigger: The Perfect. If you don't plan on viewing all the individual entries, check these comprehensive tables, also available on each type of equipment's listing page. Accessories - Armor - Helmets - Items - Key Items - Weapons . It is a great day for the Chrono Compendium, and fans of Chrono Trigger!

Chrono Crisis Demo Released

--ZeaLitY 21:39, 9 Jan 2005 (CST)

Chains of Fate, creator of the Fan Project Chrono Crisis, has revamped his plot and released a demo of the project. It requires the RPGMaker2003 runtimes to use. His preview is, Many eras have passed since mankind was first born upon the world. Countless lives have been lost, saved, and ruined, and only a few heroes have been born. Among these heroes, are three teenagers, Crono, Nadia, and Lucca, who risked their lives to save the future of their world, even though they would never live to see it themselves. Although they saved so many people, was what they did really right? What happened to the people who WOULD have been born if time had not been altered? After thinking about it, they feared that one day someone may discover the truth and seek revenge on them. Now that they're older and have lives of their own, are they willing to lose everything because they did what they thought was right?

Check it out.

MITSUDA TO TEAM WITH MASATO KATO AND RELEASE CHRONO CROSS MUSIC ARRANGEMENT

--ZeaLitY 13:13, 3 Jan 2005 (CST)

Thanks to Arc Impulse and Hopeful Death

Dengeki Online has done a special feature that interviewed several game composers. Among them was Yasunori Mitsuda, who commented that he's working on a project involving music, pictures and stories with Masato Kato, creator of the Chrono series, and that he's also releasing an arranged version of the Chrono Cross OST in 2005. Here's a rough translation:

Aspirations for 2005!
In 2005 I'm thinking about many items [i.e. music] I want to make and send out. To start with, for the first item on the list, I've done a collaboration CD called "Kirite" with Mr. Katou [Masato Kato] who did Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross's scenario and supervision, and it will come out this spring. The speech, photos, and music are having the finishing touches put on them right now. [sorry, shaky here, but that's the general gist] One more thing, a Chrono Cross arrange version CD is also planned to go on sale around July. No matter which [month?], it will be on sale from Procyon Studio (Sleighbells Label).
I'm deciding right now whether to participate in works for 3-4 other games, but I can't say the names of those. Sorry (laughs).
In all the things I've mentioned, I feel like I want to keep tirelessly working my best in 2005.

Original article at [1]

SPECTACULAR. I absolutely cannot wait until July. You can bet the Compendium will instantly have a track listing and purchasing information around then.

First Editorial Released

--ZeaLitY 23:38, 28 Dec 2004 (CST)

The first in a long line of Chrono Compendium editorials has been released, the subject being "rate the characters of Chrono Trigger." Several editorialists did just that, and offered commentary on why they placed each in a certain spot. Check out the final results at Editorial 1.

ZSNES v1.40 Released

--ZeaLitY 14:56, 28 Dec 2004 (CST)

ZSNES, often considered the best SNES emulator around, has had its first official release in a few months, with countless features updated and some new attractions. These include 48khz audio and a new kind of video filter, the HQ, which varies according to resolution. The HQ filter makes the game look positively stunning, as it rounds off blocky pixels and sprites and adds tiny shading to them. Examples include Before HQ and After HQ. Unfortunately, ZSNES.com was Slashdotted and is apparently down due to traffic overload. A mirror exists at http://ipherswipsite.com/zsnes/ or at the ZSNES sourceforge page.

Enjoy-eth this present!

Chrono Trigger Remake Project Updated

--ZeaLitY 23:48, 23 Dec 2004 (CST)

The Chrono Trigger Remake Project has, at last, updated its site, and it was well worth the wait. New screenshots are up of the Millennial Fair, which looks beautiful in the Unreal engine, and new .mp3's are up. Additionally, the site has a sort of Christmas-theme going on. This is a must-see for any Chrono fan; check it out at http://www.chrono-trigger.com .

New Fanfiction

--ZeaLitY 22:32, 22 Dec 2004 (CST)

Part 3 of Legacies of the Fallen has been posted on the Compendium, written by Jasson Knight and part of a series following the Magus, albeit under different circumstances! It is interesting from the get-go, and recommended. View it at Breathe. Additionally, Hadriel has released the second chapter in his fanfiction about Ayla, called The Edge of Forever, about "Ayla's attempt to save her tribe from the impending Ice Age prophesied by Azala...[a quest that] will be like no other she has ever faced." Hadriel immediately dives into engaging dialogue, and allows the reader to peer into Ayla's own thoughts. Check it out at Part II - Converse Echoes. Lastly, a new, wonderful piano remix of Singing Mountain, called 'Lonely Mountain,' has been released, done by RainyAida and available in Music (Chrono Trigger) or below under ReMix Watch.
